WHAT IS A LIFE CARE PLAN?

According to the International Commission on Health Care Certification, a Life Care Plan is a comprehensive document that chronicles the medical and rehabilitative history of an individual with chronic health care needs or who has sustained trauma affecting functional capacity. It provides an organized plan of current and future medical and rehabilitative needs, together with the associated costs.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A LIFE CARE PLAN?

The purpose of a Life Care Plan is to identify and quantify the reasonably medically probable future medical care, treatment, medications, diagnostic testing, equipment, and supportive services that will be required over the injured person's statistical life expectancy.

WHEN SHOULD A LIFE CARE PLAN BE REQUESTED?

Life Care Plans are typically prepared once the patient has reached a point where future medical needs can be reasonably anticipated.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A LIFE CARE PLAN?

Completion time depends on the complexity of the case, but most plans are completed within 6–8 weeks after receipt of records and case materials. Rush reports can be done for an additional fee.
